oil leak - sounds like glow plug harnesses, the stripped plug - just replace the fuel header, there are a couple of tools for the filter housing. i have a snap on socket that is double ended for both fuel filters and the oil filter. both of the harnesses and the fuel header is under the 5/100000 warranty.

my snap on dealer, it may be on snap on's website. it is a 24mm on one end, and 36mm on the other, and it is about 2 1/2 inches long, with a 3/8 drive cutout through the center. i got it for like 30 bucks.

One of the first things I learned after joining this great site is to get the HFCM plug changed because they tend to get stripped. So I went to my Ford dealer, ordered it and replaced it. Check it out.

I haven't tried any of my own oil changes but I think my next change will be the oil pan drain plug.

I think I remember reading about someone with the same problem and someone suggested that the cover on the unit can be replaced. I'm no tech and am new to all this. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I've never tried to remove a seized plug, I'd rather just install the updated header. As for the fuel filter, I have a nice shallow 36mm 3/8 socket from KD. It's made of aluminum so it's quite small and light so you don't have to fumble around with it passing the brake lines. I just put it on the filter, then route an extension through the brake lines and use a ratchet.

For the fuel filter - I use an oil filter strap type tool. The kind you would use on a gas engine. With this tool I can change the lower fuel filter in 5 minutes. It is very fast and works perfect.

There is a real short, fat easy out (I think sears sells them) that should fit without pulling the driveshaft.

On edit, a sharp center punch on the outer edge of the plug face, driven in the direction of counter clock wise should shock it loose enough to use the easy out without having to "hammer it in".

Well, with changing the fuel filter out you can either go with a real shallow socket or go long with an extension bar to get the ratchet on the other side of the crossmember. I used the same 36mm 1/2" drive deep impact socket I use for the oil filter and hooked it up to a long extension. That was a 10" or so as I recall. Cumbersome, but it bought me more room than trying to scrunch the socket and ratchet up there by the front driveshaft.

That HFCM plug is going to be a challenge. If you have a small enough metal chisel, you might be able to catch a part of the stripped out part at an angle and bang it out counterclockwise.

I'd be real tempted to try and get a Dremel in there to cut a slot in that plug for a screwdriver or just to get a better grip with the chisel, but it would probably be really hard to avoid nicking or otherwise destroying the aluminum housing of the HFCM.

I hope it works out for you. Keep us posted, and if I think of anything else I'll throw it up on here for you.
