Tailgate years???

Tailgate years???
What year tailgates will fit a 73-79 bed? Only 73-79 or will the 67-72 work also? Styleside / regular beds , not stepside...
I am looking at one locally that is in nice shape, but it is from a 69'ish truck so the guy says. He's not really sure if it's actually a '69 either...Any distinction between years???

They will work, but the bodylines wont look right, and it looks pretty obvious that it's a swap.
There are quite a few 73-79s around here with the 67-72 tailgates.
If you don't care what it looks like, then there is no problem. If you are wanting to do something for restoration, pass it up for a 73-79.

It just occurred to me that my uncle has a 60 something bed sitting behind the shop, with the tailgate...I guess I could sit my truck and it side by side and compare...
Wasn't even thinking about that bed being there...I guess I'll check tonight.
