The rear from a 67-72 Ford pick up will fit right in your truck. The pinion angle will need to be adjusted by shimming at the spring pads. I modified a rear from an 87 Crown Vic for my 48. When I was looking for suitable rears for my truck I also found that a Nova rear from around 1970 would also be about the right width. With any rear swap you'll most likely have to fabricate a new driveshaft also.

if you are changing the front end, you may want to match the track width and bolt pattern to it. If you change the bolt pattern, finding a a car 9" rearend would be in order. Check 60-64 Ford Galaxy is 60". Also try 71-73 Mustangs and Cougars. Finding an 8" rearend in that range is easy. The 57-79 truck rearend will be about 1-1 1/2" wider than the stock rearend.
