alternator question
I've noticed that when I start my truck for the first time in the morning that the battery gauge only goes about a third of the way, then after about a minute, it goes to the center and the lights get brighter. I was wondering if this is a diesel thing (glow plugs) or if I should start looking for a new alternator. One more thing, it only does it after its been sitting for 12 hours or so, then the rest of the day, it does what it's supposed to. Any help would be great. Thanks, Mike

Well the glow plugs can be energized up to 2 minutes , after that if still at idle the IAH can be energized up to 30 minutes. Check your battery voltage while someone is cranking the truck it should stay > 10.5vdc. If not the batts could bet getting weak. Also check voltage at idle should be around 13vdc and 14vdc at 2000rpm.
