I have a 1988 Ford F-250 with an inline 6. I had an electrical place check my truck out . The only thing they could see wrong with it was my alternator was bad. I have replaced it 3 times.
Its like my truck has no power. It will only run about 40mph.
Does anyone know what could be causing my alternator to go out?
this is a very odd desription. '88s had an internal voltage regulator so it cant be the voltage reg.
are you even sure the alt is going out?? make sure your voltage is above 13.5 volts.. if its that or above, no more than 16 Volts, then the alt is still good.
I dont know what else to tell you. its hard to understand the problem that your having without a better desription of whats going on
Change the fuel filter and check the catalytic converter and muffler. Low power is a classic symptom of those three things. I have never seen a bad alternator cause a vehicle to be limited to 40 mph.
