not positve on engine

I have been told that my truck is 57 F350, but I am not sure. It is the 57-60 body style. The engine, which I believe is a 292 has a slanted distributer in the rear and has exhaust that raps from the left around the front of the engine to the left hand side. If anyone can help I would appreciate it greatly.

dover, In the '57-'60 year trucks, the 1957 would be the only one that had single headlights, and the fifth character of your serial number would be a "7". If your engine is original, it is most likely a 272. The fourth character in your serial number should show up as a "k". Please let me know if I can be of further help.

That definately sounds like a Y-block to me... try the Y-block forum for more info on that particular family of engines. :-)

Hi, The Y-block conference or forum is located on the main message board page, and listed right above the "Flathead V8" conference. If you click on the "message boards" link in the blue box to the right of your screen, it will take you to the main page for the message boards.

You are right. it is a 292 v8, cause i have on in my '59 ford f100. the differences between the 57-60 are as follows:

57 = single headlights. was the only one in the series that had this type grille

58 = quad headlights. also had round turn signals and a "grid" grille. horizontal and vertical lines together. like this
00 ++++++++ 00
++++++++

the "0"'s being the headlights

59 = same thing with headlights. only the grille had three vertical lines and (i think, not off the top of my head) 4 horizontal lines

60 = had the 4 head lights but, i think, an ugly grille. no offence to any one.

00 ________ 00
++++++++
++++++++++

also these were rectangle turn singnals. same in the 59. hope i was a help to you. i know how you feel. feel free to visit my website at www.members.tripod.com/nice59fordf100

Good luck!

The 292 wasn't available until mid production year 1958. The 1957-60 F-100 thru F-350 V-8's were as follows:

1957 = 272
1958 = 272 (first half year), 292(second half year), and some 312's (when they ran short of 292's).
1959 = 292
1960 = 292
The six cyl for 1957-60 was a 223
