4x4 trbl
2000 f250 4x4. I can turn my switch in the truck to 4x4 high or low and hear it engage in the front axle but tires will not engage. I can get out and turn my hubs from auto to lock and they will lock in and work fine. I wonder why my hubs will not work on auto.

You are not the first person to have had the ESOF system fail. I am surprised that it has taken so long. Search these, and other forums (Super Duty / Heavy trucks), and you will find many of these vehicles suffer from the dreaded vacuum gremlin.
