I got a overload spring pack that sits on top of the leafs that are in the truck, held down by 4 -U- bolts 2 at the axle, that I assume clamp tight, and one at each end of the spring pack, that have to have tension on them. does anyone know how I go about setting them up properly?
That doesn't sound right to me. If it goes on top of the pack it should have something attached to the frame to rest against when loaded. Unless, they just rest on top of the top leaf and the other u-bolts are actually pack clamps. Which case, you remove the bolt plate ontop the pack, install the overload, clamp and use the newer longer u-bolts to attach the pack to the axle.
Do you have a manufacture, or brand name so we can try to figure it out?
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that an overload spring should attach to the top of the existing OE set up (assuming that they are in in good shape). In that configuration the "extra" load would settle on to the frame ears. But I guess there are several ways to skin a cat. That arrangment seems cleaner without all the bolts and gizmos....and the extra weight is carried by the frame itself.
