HEATER COIL? and starting problem

1.) So im driving, the time of year where the temperature is starting to drop , All of a sudden my windows like to fog up.Defrost doesnt work and neither does driving with open windows. So i use a towel. This morning after putting in a high output alternator i started up.Now the sun was at just the right angle to see some vapors coming out of the top/Defrost vents.*Smells like anti freeze*
__Is it a leak in heater coil or something else?__

2.) Batery seems to drain or isnt being charged.Recently installed alternator, new batery cables and bought a voltage regulator.Batery held a charge and wrked for 3 days then it decided to not work.Mainly i need a "wire-gram" of the charging system i.e. Alternator volt regulator etc.

thanks -Pete

As far as your heating problem sounds like you may need a new heater core.

Take your battery to a place for complete testing.

Only after one can confirm that the Battery is working properly and fully charged on a battery charger ...can we properly diagnose systems.

You see ....Batteries, from lack of use "sulfate" and develop shorts inside themselves causing "seemingly"... charging problems.

Get the battery tested and charged asap ...then get back to us.

Uggh- heater core. It's a closed system, so if you're smelling antifreeze, that be it. The fan blows across a small radiator, distributing heat through a plenum which contains a "door" that directs the heat where you want it, be it defrost, floor, etc. Not sure what year ('73?) you have, but my '70's "door" was controlled with a cable, whereas my '79 is vaccum actuated.

Heater core...i wrote heater coil...lol.

anywase...i originally thought it was the baterry so i switched bateries with my dad...(87 Ford) both batteries seem to be working ok.I just need a schematic of the charginf system.

Thanks

Oh--heater core*.......i disconected the two hoses that enter the compartment where the heater core is.I then conected those two together.Just so i can still drive it (Brrrrr cold). From what i heard to replace the heater core on this baby i need to take out the whole dash.Any suggestions, any one have experience?

Thanks so much guys.

Interesting, i dont know if i have 73 controls or 79 controls. My dad doesn remember either. We put a 73 body on a 79 chasis, i dont know about the haeter system. What i do know is, we couldnt install The AC because controls didnt match so im gonna guess the 73 controls are in.Ill see when i replace the heater core. Gonna order 1 next week.

Okay so those are cable controls.
Regardless you need to replace the heater core.

There are several replace heater core threads on here with all the instructions.

It isn't that difficult on a NON-AC heater but there are some pertinent things about it.
Like the bolt on the right side of the dash need to be loosened, as the dash as to move about 1/2" to allow the plenum out
