replaced the contitrac suv tires with goodyear trackers. the noise from the tires is unbeliveable. it so friggin loud it vibrates the change in the tiny coin holder on the left of the steering wheel.
anyone have ideas of what kind of tire to put on it to eleminate or at least reduce the noise?
I just put Michelin LTX MS on mine, and what a hugh difference. Mine came with Dayton Wilderness AT's, and while not an aggressive AT tire they were so noisey I thought that Escapes had loud drivetrains. I've had the Michelins for about 1000 miles, I think they are light years better than the Daytons much, much, much quieter, great traction in the rain, smoother ride and better handling. They're not a cheap tire, but it is a great tire! It made my Escape feel like a whole new vehicle. I looked at alot of tires with my goal, (besides having a good safe tire) was getting rid of as much road noise as possible, personally I think this is the best tire out there. If you off road alot than an AT type tire may be what you need, but they will always be somewhat noisey.

I'd also be interested in opinions of alternative tires as I will not go back to the Continentals. I don't go off-road at all, so a decent all-season is about all I need. Going over some of Tirerack's testimonials it seemed like alot of guys really liked the Bridgestone Duelers, about the only tire that got a good review for the Escape.
Joey - Bridgestone makes a lot of good tires. I have used several different models and have had good luck with them. Mostly performance tires (used for street and track) and their Blizzak line. Their Dueler line seems to get a lot of good reviews, but I don't have personal experience with them. I would consider them.

Thanks for the info , I think I may go that route when it comes time to changing tires by springtime, looking forward to less road noise, and guys report even better fuel economy with the Bridgestones. Might be a good route to go.
I don't remember if I read reviews on Tireracks site or on Tires.com, but either way the Michelin CrossTerrains had good reviews for a quiet ride. I bought a set about 40,000 miles ago and have been pleased. There were also some positive reviews for a Firestone model (Firehawk?).
Tire noise can really be a pain. I recently replaced a set of Yokohama's on my 2000 Mustang GT and went back to the original Goodyears. The difference was amazing. The Yokohama's had become so loud I couldn't even hear the engine, and that's saying something in a convertible!!
Here is what I did with some sound deadening material to kill off the road noise in my '01 Escape. It was a little more work than simply replacing the tires, but makes for a much quieter ride these days.

tcesni, is right on Tiretracks and a few other sites rated them very high in many areas. I put them on and like them very well and the avarge road noise is low!
