The gas tank for my 57 F100 is very rusty inside. I can have it cleaned and coated locally for about $100("no guarantee"). Also, I have looked at kit from Eastwood for about $40 to do the same thing. Has anyone had experience doing this? I have considered relocating the tank, but at this point, I would like to do whatever is easiest and cheapest. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yes I have used it and it works well but takes a little muscle to do. No Biggie! First I bought a gallon of a good water soluable cleaner from my local parts store. I used carquest purple cleaner. I poured it in the tank ( I had it removed from the truck.) and put in a large piece of chain (what you would use to tow a vehichle) and kept twisting and turning it for about 15 minutes. I then removed the chain and took the tank to my local quarter car wash and power washed the inside everywhere I could reach for about 10 minutes! Rinse with clear water really well and let dry for at least 24 hours! you can use a hair drier to assure it is dry. I then poured in a quart of the sealer and rolled it around till every square inch of the inside is coated. I then poured out the remaining sealer back into its can to be used again. I let it dry for at least 24 hours and then did a second coat with what was left and a second quart of sealer. I repeated this process till I used all of the sealer. I did not use the kit from eastwood but bought the sealer by the quart from carquest auto. It cost me about $40.00 and works great! Hope this helps!
