I have a question about the hand held vac. I know they dont work for brakes, but what I am wondering is will it work to bleed the clutch slave? I have tried to bleed it the way it says in the book. I just dont feel like im getting the right results. When I open the bleed screw on the slave i dont get a free flowing fluid. My master is new and the slave is about 10 months old. the problem i am having is it is difficult to shift gears some times. The clutch disc, pressure plate all look good. So is the "MightyVac" worth the money? and could it do what i need it to do?
There's no replacement for bleeding the old fashioned way. Have a partner sit in the cab and bleed it just like you would brakes. Pump it up, hold the clutch in, open the screw, close it, release the pedal, check the fluid level.
The Mighty Vacs are mighty handy but they do have their limitations.
On ABS brake systems, I am told that you need to have the engine running and bleed the brakes the old fashioned way. This is because the ABS pump gets in the way of normal suction bleeding. It is still very handy to drain the master so you don't pump old fluid down into the rest of the system when you do a periodic fluid change.
In my mind the biggest limitation of the Mighty Vac is the small size of the waste reservoir.
If the Mighty Vac doesn't work with a clutch or brake system, then it is probably best that you use the old fashioned pump hold bleed method with a partner who knows when to hold. I would guess some cylinders have a reverse check valve that prevents the vacuum from pulling thru ther reservoir.
