what does the capacitor do exactly?
Hello
doing some clean up on my truck -1989,5.0,std,4x4-
I noticed the wire to the capacitor (next to the coil) was frayed
what does that capacitor do?, and would the wire being frayed affect the performance of the truck?
this is a 200.00 plow truck..so I am still sorting out stuff trying to get it to run right

It's a storage center for electricity.....Thus, its name
Those little suckers have the capacity to store thousands of volts.
The spark that doesn't go to the spark plugs gets arrested to the condensor/choke/capacitor.

A choke is a coil of wire and does a different job than a capacitor.
The name was changed from condenser to capacitor in 1922, before that they thought that it condensed the electricity away.
