Crimping wire
http://www.interfire.org/features/el...ing_faults.asp
I have read many different reports over the years, and I have seen a lot of wire nut failures over the years that almost became structure fires. Some of the wire nuts were mis-applied. Some were not. Everything looked good and proper but they heated up anyway. Some wire nuts are sold as "no-twist" required. I am old school and always twist well and snip to length before applying the wire nut. I also fold for some applications. I use wire nuts, I just don't use them for low voltage or automotive applications.
Being on the engineering end of fire and burg systems both on the device and central station levels was an eye opener. I have even had the great displeasure of getting UL approvals on devices. After my dealings with UL and their specifications and mis-specifications I much prefer to see CSA or VDE approvals on any device I use.
