Just wanted to say thanks to all those that take the time to post and give sound technical advice. I've saved countless hours and hundreds of dollars reading and following the information found in these posts to solve numerous problems with my '99 F150 2wd 5.4L (110,000 mi.). I've been through the rear axle "clunk" solved by spring helpers, IAC cleaning to cure stalling, numerous DTCs due to vacuum hose leak, shorted coil due to coolant leak from heater hose, faded odometer reading due to cold solder joint in gauge cluster, front end "clunk" due to bad idler arm, blinking O/D light which led to a twice rebuilt transmission, etc. At the moment, I'm looking for items relating to another front end "clunk" when I turn (ball joint??) and a valve tapping noise that I'm afraid is going to end up being a bend push rod that I read about somewhere. Thanks for all the help and I'll post any info. I come across that may help someone.
I also have an '03 Explorer 2wd 4.0L (90,000 mi) that's had a new A/C system and a new rear differential covered under the extended warranty. I probably won't buy another car without the extended warranty because of my experience with this Explorer.
Glad to hear the site has helped you out. Hopefully some of the issues won't be as bad as what you think they are. My truck has been a tank and has had very issues.
As much experience as you have, be sure and help others out with similar issues.
