Got a Sirrius satillite radio system for Christmas.......short of hanging a sign on it that says "Here I am...break glass and take me"...have any of you come up with a different mounting arangement? I was hoping to mount it under the dash, on the dash front or above the rear view mirror. I find that the wonderful suction cup will only work on glass. Give me some ideas.
Got to thinking, maybe they are not a hot item to steal as they are registered by number and if it gets stolen, I can shut the service off and make it useless...what do you guys think?
How big is the actual unit? I would think that the most clearest route to a satellite would be right above the mirror. Can you move the mirror as far down as possible and see if it will fit there on the tinted portion of the windshield?
adambomb, a little off topic but are you a Palm (By that I mean Palm Access) user? Just wondering
trakman, does the unit have controls on it? Meaning does it need to be in reach? Do you have gauges on the a-piller? I would mount it as low as you can on the windshield right besides the gauges.
i have the streamer replay and i have it mounted on the drivers side lower corner on the windshield so that the bottom of the unit is resting on the dash but still able to use the suction cup on the windshield. I tried it up by the mirror when i first got it last year but its very distracting at night.

LOL, yes I meant Palm PDA (Palm Pilot). Theres a user on one of the Treo boards I visit by the name of adambomb also, he knows his stuff about Palm software so I was just wondering if that was you
I can find a link, but at www.tessco.com they have no drill mounts by a company called pro-fit and or panavise, for cell phone holders which make nice options for people afraid to drill, not for me though, i mounted my egt and boost gauge right were some people have the electric 4wd selector... i used to have an external sirius below the cubby, under the heater controls, but now mines built into my aftermarket radio.....
i have the starmate reciever and i wedge the windshield mount into to the storage cup in the dash , fits in there pretty good and the Antenna wire fits in the crack to the left of the pocket
I actually have an older Sirius reciever, and had the same problem. The mounts they give you won't adhere anywhere. I bought a cheap cell phone holder that clips into one of the heater vents and just hang it there. The antenna I ran the wire through the firewall where my power wire for my amp runs through, then I ran it under the drivers side windshiedl weather strip and stuck it on the roof right above the windshield. No problems not even in the auto car wash.
I havent heard any storys of people gettin their sirius stolen...I have min right in the middle of the dash in plain view, and I keep mine on all the time, so at night its easily visible by others......before I got my guages it fit nicely right beside my pillar....the cup only sticks well if the window is ultra clean on the inside....and a little bit of spit.
