i wouldnt say much, maybe a few more bells and whistles, compare the sticker and see the difference. i have an 06 tremor and from what fte people have stated is, its an xlt except with a kickin stereo.
From my experience, I am NOT an expert. The XLT package usually makes the truck look a lot better and might add some functionality. Dependent on the year the XLT might give you the power package, vice manual locks and windows.
What year are you looking at?
Just FYI, looking at my truck a 2004 Ranger. The XLT would cost about $1000 more than the standard with all other variables the same.
Yep it's just a bonus package, adds some amenities and what not. However, it may just be a badge for many people.
Example...my Ranger is an XLT, but it has the cloth 40/60 bench, stick shift, manual locks and windows, etc. Only real upgrades it has are the 4.0L, a tachometer, and A/C. It also had the AM/FM cassette player.
Depending on year, it's gonna give you a carpeted floor, standard cloth seat (instead of vinyl), maybe a standard cassette deck (or CD player, on newer trucks), more chrome on the outside, standard A/C on newer trucks, and open you up to more options you could check on the order sheet (power package, etc.)
I thought my '97 XLT was a pretty stripped down vehicle until a friend bought an '00 XL...
-3.0 V6 manual trans.
-60/40 split cloth seat with built in console
-cargo light
-map lights
-map pockets in the door panels
-mirror on passenger side visor
-styled external mirrors
-carpet
-carpet floor maps
-cargo net behind the seat
-chrome bumpers
-chrome grill
my truck was a cheap equipment group, so it was kinda a stripped XLT
Things my truck didn't come with:
-power windows, locks, mirrors
-cruise control
-auto trans
-no back doors
-no sliding back window
-keyless entry
-no ashtray (just a cup that goes in a drink holder)
-it came with 15x7 7 spoke steel wheels.
Yeah, you don't want to have to go aftermarket for things like power windows and locks, tilt steering or cruise control. The stereo is the only aftermarket item you can get cheap. You can get a good stereo from ford if you order it on the truck like the tremor, but if you try and buy it from ford by it's self, you'll need a 2nd morgage on the house ha ha.
XLT package gives an am/fm radio with cd and 4 speakers instead of am/fm with 2 speakers, carpeted floor, upgraded seat, different standard wheels, and a/c. this is with 2006 xlt package, it varies with year. I think you can option an xl like an xlt.
My 04 SC 4x4 XLT, has power, tilt, cruise, single cd, but no carpet, it has rubber flooring, and thats what I wanted any way. The first 04 SC 4X4 XLT I looked at, had a stepside bed, no power, tilt or cruise, it did have a single cd and rubber flooring as well. There were only 3 04 4x4 rangers on the lot with a 5-speed manual, the one I bought with the power options, the stepside xlt with no power options and a black edge. The edge was the only 1 out of the 3 with carpet. This was back in 04. Now, the ranger 4x4's with the auto tranny xlt's had carpet, it was kind of screwy. All 3 manual 4x4's had the 4.0 v6 and 4:10 gears, but some of the auto 4x4's had the 3.0 and some had the 4.0. The one thing that all the xlt's had in common, was the chrome a round the grill and a rear step bumper. I don't know about now, but 04 was a weird time for xlt's as they ran the gammit as far as options.
