Is the stock exhaust piping stainless? I ask because I want to put an exhaust cut out in the truck. The truck is an 06 F250 v10. Does this mean I need to find a stainless steel cutout or will an aluminized one work? Can I weld the aluminized steel into the stainless pipe? Thanks alot
Your 06 is entirely stainless... no you can NOT weld the aluminized cut out in line... well yes you can but the welding process will destroy the very thin aluminum coating on the cut out and both welds will now be your weak corrosion point
If you seriously want to do this...here is a recommendation... drop the long pipe that goes from the two to one collector and back. Take it to a muffler shop with your cut out... have them weld in the cut out on a replacement pipe...store the factory (very expensive) pipe for the day when your louden boomer pipe fails or you decide to sell or trade the truck...
Yes, sort of... I am suggesting that the factory collector to muffler pipe be used as the length and hange position template for a new pipe with the cut out added in... it can be out of stainless if you desire, but standard (cheap) mild steel with the cut out welded in will last 5~7 years even in salt water spray areas...
once you get tired of the noise, or plan to sell the truck, or the replacment pipe with cutout finally craps out all you have to do is a 10 minute change to have the original stainless pipe back in place
