when on the highway, the revvs stick at 2k-2500rpm after a while of driving. i pulled over, checked the TB and it was closed. started it back up and it shot back up to 2500 again and stayed there. its happening more and more when on the highway and is to the point where is dangerous because i have to over work and heat the crap out of the brakes to keep control of it once i get off the highway. it eventually goes back down to normal, sometimes after a minute sometimes after 5. there doesnt seem to be any method to the madness. the only thing i could think of (ive never checked this TB before) is that is has an idle air control sensor that moves in and out and it keeps sticking in so the hole is wide open. anyone have any ideas? thanks guys
In addition to checking the IAC and associated wiring, take a good look at the throttle body to make sure there is no carbon build-up that is keeping the butterfly valve open a little. Also check for any vacuum leaks.
i cleaned the TB right when it first started happening, its squeeky clean now. i didn't think about vac leaks at the time though, i'll deff check those when i check the IAC. why can't this crap ever happen when its warm??? its a warm winter here (MA) but still, 40* isn't ideal wrenching weather and this things too big to fit into the garage.
Guess you better tell the wifey that you'll be building a bigger garage so you can work on your truck and that you'll have to have it right away because otherwise it's kinda like havin a stove without a kitchen, lol!!! Sorry I'm no help but I thought I'd lighten the mood!

lol, we just bought the house. its a split level with a 1 car underneath. i already drew up plans (i'm a builder) to add on a massive 3 car (one bay with a lift) with a master bedroom and an entertainment room above it. but it's going to take me probably 2 years to come up with the cash for it. the old garage which is just barely big enough to put my eclipse race car in and walk around, will be closed off and used as a small movie room. or a nice torture chambr as all thw walls are concrete, so its prefect.
