unlike diesel trucks, there is no simple plugin box that will give you alot more power.
if im not mistakin most vehicles that can be computer tuned have obd2, ive heard around here obd2 was put into use on ford trucks starting in 1996.
the one programmer i found for my 96 f150 was a hypertech power programer, in terms of power it added alittle but not much.
our trucks are old enough that power has to be added the old fashion way. if your looking for more power, hang a set of headers on it, get a free flowing exhaust, open up the air intake. if you want to get more into it add a cam, better intake manifolds or even a set of heads.
like i said before unlike modern diesels there is no magic box that will give you insane power gains.
Hypertech, I'm pretty sure, USED to offer a chip for the OBD1 computers found in the pre 1996 F150's. I think that retail was around $300.00 or so and basically all it did was fatten up the injector pulse, alter the shift points and advance the timing. Premium fuel was required or the motor would ping itself to death with the new operating parameters. I am in agreement with jimbo beam in that the best way to truly gain power from the 5.0 is to open up the intake and exhaust, cam it as much as the speed density will comfortably handle and drop some free breathing new (AFR, FORD Motorsports, Edelbrock) or re-worked E7TE heads on it. Then you can make some serious power. Of course, you know, you could always bolt on a supercharger-------------
I guess I was hoping against hope. Your suggestions about the old fashioned way would defininitely do the trick if I wanted to spend the bucks, but with 180K on old Betsy now I hardly think it's worth it. Banks advertises a system for increasing H.P. and torque by up to 68 H.P. and 94 ft.lb. torque which would really help but I don't know anyone who has the system to tell me whether it's worth the investment. Of course the manufacturer will tell you anything to sell it.

I can see that there ain't no magic bullet. A 302 is a 302 period. I don't want to spend a fortune and I know those heads aren't cheap. I was primarily looking for someone who had experience with a Banks Power Pack. So far no luck! My ' 94 has 180K on it now and although I take good care of the engine it's anyone's guess how much longer it will last. Thanks for the advice however.
According to Banks Power, they do. Go to bankspower.com
i went to bankspower and i didnt see anything for your year f-150 with a gas burner.but for the 300 or more dollars u would spend on a programmer a cam and lifter set would cost less, or u could go with a good set of headers, jba, edelbrock, bbk, ford motorsports
