Found the problem with 2002 cd player.

I just got a 2002 F-150 extended cab pick-up last week. The cd player would say "BAD CD" after a few seconds of putting one in,with every cd that I had. I took the radio out of the dash, pulled the top cover off, unscrewed the cd player unpluging the wire harness ever so gently and was going to go further into it when I wised up and found the small crystal like pick-up that reads the cd ( don't know what it is called). I took a q-tip w/ some rubbing alcohol and cleaned it and dried it.Thinking that I had just wasted my time I put it back together and it works perfectly. How long, I don't know but it's working now with all my cd's.

Good, I will keep that in mind. I don't know what the average life spand of these CD players is, but they sure do alot better than the late 80s-early 90s tape players. Thanks for the tip.
