i heard it better when you were inside the truck. good job on capturing this. you might need to be patient and let the dealer have the truck for a while. give the recordings and all of your info and see where it goes. if i had to guess, it is definitely something electrical like cam sensor of pcm or ficm or harness. i would rule out everything else for now because it sounds to smooth and then it just "hiccups" for a split second.

It's just odd that the majority of the times is seems to do it after sustained highway trips. You are correct, it does do multiple stumbling hiccups and while it does at idle in any gear it seems more pronounced under load (D or R).
I have given the dealer a copy of all the clips. I'm doing all I can to help give them details of what I'm experiencing. This thing makes me feel like a hypochondriac when I'm telling the dealer it's doing it, but they have nothing telling them it's doing anything but running normally!
Just thought I'd let everyone know that the dealer is really digging into the problem. It went in last Thurs. for some other work and further investigation into the issue in this thread. It's Tuesday and they still have it (not complaining) trying to get to the bottom of it.
According the the SD they have been able to duplicate the issue. They have replaced the icp sensor and a wire-harness, but the issue continued. I think the tech is now taking it personally! It acts up long enough to tell him it's not fixed, but not long enough to get it on the computer...although I think he's got the on-board system with it now.
I also have an 04 and one time when accelerating on to freeway, she started to backfire Ipulled over and gave her some rpms thinking she was going to dieI noticed no backfire when in neutral but in gear she continued to backfire.I towed it to the dealer and they replaced the standpipe under warranty.no prob since.Hope i could help.
Thanks usroute66...to bad it's non-fiction! I try to arm myself (and the techs) with all the information I can supply. I'm a good data collector, but need the tech to decipher it all.
johnnyupser. It'll do it in any gear, it's just more noticeable while in D or R.
Called to get word from the SD. Yesterday they told me they had to contact Ford Engineering to ask for assistance. I have to get final written confirmation, but today they said they replaced injectors, per Ford direction. I had injectors 1, 2, 6, & 8 replaced 10/06 and the SD writer thinks they replaced all the other not previously replaced. IF it's the fix, vloney called it in a different thread of mine.

I won't get the vehicle back until tomorrow evening b/c they have to finish up the work and do a driveability test and such.
What do you guys think? Does the 'fix' sound logical?
Picked up the Excursion yesterday. The tech took some time to explain the tests and showed the before and after results. I think it was a power balance test that showed at idle some of the injectors were 'dropping out'. They replaced the 4 injectors on the right bank and reperformed the test (per Ford requested direction). The before and after range on the graph we remarkebly different. Hopefully we got it tackled this time.
The tech said to be mindful of diesel quality and to stay on top of changing out the filters. I told him I run PS diesel additives and he suggested to continue to do so.
I sent them (tech / writers) a 'thank you' for spending some time trying to figure this thing out by buying them gift certificates for lunch.
Now, to get some miles on my new Hawk pads and Powerslot cryos (thanks DPPI)...
