I have a 1950 Ford F3 with a flatgead 8. What should I expect to spend on a rebuild? Any good place to buy ones already done stock? I am also thinking of maybe putting in a newer 351 in it. Where might I find motor mounts to except the new motor in the stock frame? Thanks for any help.
You can get the mount from Dennis Carpenters. The rebuild kit from Kantor or Egge. The rebuild kit is around $1100.00. I will put my 226 flat 6 together the second sat of January
Do you know for sure that the Flatty needs a rebuild? What is the history on the engine, did it sit a long time and has just been re-started? Or have you been driving it and have seen it deteriorate? It may just need a freshening-up. Done a compression test? Inquiring minds want to know!
I just took delivery of a re-built '52 flathead form Precision Morors in Houston. I did not have a core and it cost me $3,700 which included shipping. It wasn't cheap, but they guarantee it for a year. I looked around for good used engines, but they wanted almost $1,500 for them, and they would probably have to be re-built anyway. http://www.precisionengine.com/
I will have $1082 in the rebuild kit. The machine work will be around 700.00 plus the machine shop I am using will let me come in on a Saturday to put the engine together. They guarantee this one for a year as well if they do the work. I feed them lunch and stop to bs with them so I get to put my own back together under supervision of course. Great to have a shop like that next door. Plus the owner is a first class guy! Story Motors in Massillon, Ohio on First Street NE
