Does anyone know of a remote starter bypass module that does not require a key to be inside of it. I would hate to spend the $80 for a key to put in a $20 module.
Is this what a learning module is? I see a JBS learning universal bypass at my local Wal-Mart but can't find info on it.
Any info on your remote starter install would be great... I am putting it in my wife's 98 EB Expedition 5.4L
The Ford dealer installed unit has a Pats interface module. Its a box about the size of an impact sensor for an aftermarket alarm system. It plugs into the module and has a sensor antenna loop that goes around the Pats transciever at the ignition lock cylinder tube opening. You program it just like a key, but if you dont have 2 keys that does you no good anyway.
AFAIK if it is a PATS system it takes the two ORIGINAL keys to program a new key, copies won't work.
You can always take a remaining original key, make as many cheap plain (non-code) copies of it as you want. This will drive the Hardware store key guy nuts. Cut the end off the original key so it won't work the ignition (after you have tested the copies in the lock and are back home). Remove the antenna ring from around the ignition lock. Ty-wrap the shortened original key inside the antenna ring. Secure the antenna-key assembly up inside the column or dash somewhere. Now the stupid computer always sees a code key and your regular cheap key copies will work the ignition. They will also open doors and your remote start unit will work without any additional modules.

Thanks everyone. I know you and others say I need 2 keys to program my PATS key but I did some searching on the site, and I have heard two different stories. One is that I need two keys, the other is that I only need 1 key to program additional spares.
I looked up how to program additional keys in my manual,(now that I know you can actually do that yourself), and there is no mention of a second key in the instructions. Where does the second key come in to play. Or am I a lucky guy with an early 98' model with an older style PATS system off a 97' or something?
cuz if I can program my own keys with the one I have, I can find the programmable keys on ebay for next to nothing...
If it has a first generation pats it only needs one key. Some vehicles didnt have second generation Pats till 99 so you may be lucky there. I didnt search all the manuals to see which you have. If I were at work I could look at my charts.

You want REAL stuff, avoid evilmart.
No you don't need to lose an $80 key to use a bypass module.
Yes the module is MORE expensive,, hence StupiPeopleMart won't sell it,
No its not the $20 wrong part that ends up costing you $100, how about THE correct part at $30 and you are DONE,, Finito, finished!!!!!
