I've got a 77 250 highboy with a 351M. She's my daily driver but also my snowplow truck. I have noticed that the negative terminal on my battery has a small problem. It is heating up enough to melt little drops of lead off the terminal. Not alot, but just little drops that catch on a small plastic ledge on the battery. I only noticed it because of seeing the little drop of solid lead stuck to the side of my battery. I put new heavy duty terminal ends on thinking that might be the problem but they do it too. Of course it doesn't do it all the time and the terminal which has been on for a few months shows only a very minor loss.
I thought it might be from the plow pulling power but it does it even without the plow hooked up during the non-plowing season. Is this a ground issue or something else? Truck doesn't seem to have any noticable electrical issues or loss of function that I can tell. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
The wire itself is corroded. You could clean it with muriatic acid but it has been overheated and is brittle, essentially too far gone to save. Just replace the ENTIRE cable.
