ABS Light

I need some advice on where to start troubleshooting my ABS. The light is staying on.

Welcome to FTE Meterman.

Would be helpful to know some more about your ride, like year, engine, auto or manual tranny, mileage, 4x4, or 4x2, & if 4x2, does it have 4WABS or just RABS.

Also did this begin after some event, like have you done any vehicle repairs, or brake service on the system, just before the problem began????
Are you having any other problems, like the speed-o acting up, or the auto tranny not shifting right, or the cruise control not setting, or dropping out????

OK it is 99 ranger 3.0 liter manual trans. I had a buddy run the code, found out the vehicle speed sensor is the problem. No significant events, will this cause the ABS light to stay on?

Yes, a bad speed sensor will cause the ABS light to come on. It is located on the top of the rear differential. And it's easy to change.

Yup, I suspected the speed control, located on the top front of the differential.

It can cause the speed-o to act up, as well as a auo tranny shifting, cruise control & set your ABS light off.

As jimw411 said, it's easy to change out.

Well the sensor from O'Rellys was the wrong one...it looked nothing like the one I took out. Took it back and went to dealership..$24.50...fixed the problem. Noticed some metal flakes on old sensor, so I drained the diff and refilled with new grease. Thanks all for the help.
