The 98-97 has only 11HP less than the 99+ 4.6 THE 98 HAS COIL PACKS NOT COIL OVER PLUGS MAKING IT EASYER TO WORK ON ,CHEAPER TO FIX AND MORE RELIABLE .The npi intake can be port matched and cleaned to flow better than factory pi motor.Cops and pi heads are a marketing ploy and a dealer money grab truth be known.I would have bought a 5.4 if i could find one with coil packs.97 does have more bugs and a slightly weaker tranny.As for major bug it was still there in 03 production.I promise you the plug issue was not fixed until mid-late 03 so it's still a lottery.It all depends on the build date and what parts were stocked at the time.Whether it was a monday or friday it dosen't matter what matters is whether all the monkies working on the line that day were happy or not.
