What i am really interested in is connecting a box between the vc connecter and the wires to the vc. But what I need to know is that if you turn the power on and off is this going to screw something up in the injector or pcm

I don't follow you. The BoB is connected outside the VCs if I am not mistaken and the way to test it is by running the engine and disabling one injector at a time and observing the results. That is why it would be a good tool to ID a hammering cyllinder.
Yeah, I can't remember if it was Fat Diesel who did it or not but I have a pdf copy of the instructions with pics on what he did. PM me your email and I would be happy to send it to you. I think the AE would do the same but better because with the BOB you have no measurable results but what you physically observe.
Edit: OK, I read your original post again. I think what you are referring to is a simper version. I'm not sure but think it should work if constructed correctly. May throw a code though, I can't say. Would you like a copy of the BoB pdfs to review. With a wiring diagram you should be able to figure out if that will work for you, though I like the way you think. Simpler is better. As quick as I send this someone is likely to post why this will not work and I too am interested in that.
Yes, Tenn I pm'ed you my e-mail address. I think that this box would work because it shouldn't be any different than one plug being burned and that injector not working. Also it would be cheap and could be built from used parts
All of that is speaking my language. Check your mail.
I would stick with the injector part though. It will not diagnose valve or compression problems, well, it can narrow it down to a hole though, but it does it via injectors.

Tenn, thank you got the infor. Very interesting I may have to make one someday. What i am thinking of is much simpler, with only four switches and it plugs in between vc connector and the connector going to the vc. Check one bank and then other. What I think I need is a vc gasket for the connector and two uvc harnesses, make a box with four switches and wire to the connectors injectors only. PLug it in and try it.
56 there is no reason what you are talking won't work either. it will be simpler. it will throw codes just like a bad UVC harness but thats no big deal as long as you can clear codes
Here's some interesting reading on what the Intermotive IPA is designed to do. A high speed break out box but the usefulness of a homemade model is clearly evident.
Just to let you all know. I spent about and hour wandering around the local junk year looking for anything that might come in handy and found both ends of the 42 pin connector you need to build the break out box. it came off a mid 90's f-150 gas engine truck. It used right near the engine compartment fuse box. If anybodies looking for the connector look for one of them.
