"04" 5.4 VALVE TRAIN FAILURE
Here is a post copied from Consumer Affairs that applies to your truck if you have the 3 valve evgine:
Richard of Melfa VA (11/28/06)
My Ford F-150 5.4L Triton motor has a known problem where the spark plugs break off during routine changing requiring the cylinder heads to be pulled. My truck ran perfectly before I took it in for service. Now I am without a vehicle for an unknown amount of time.
The estimate is $1600 so far. All 8 of my spark plugs are stuck in the motor. The Ford customer service line stated there is no known Ford program to help with this problem. The online forums are full of similar stories. This is not right, it is a Ford problem. The customer service stated it is a dealer problem because they broke the plugs.

as to seating i've seen lawn mower motors with a 3/8inch washer plug pop out. air cooled bettles as far back as the early ones of the 1950's pop out. they had a 3/8ths washer seal plug. i've see nissans, toyota's, audi/vw's with long thread lengh plugs pop out. i even had my f.i'd merc. out board pop them every one took out the threads. talk about costs on the merc, ob. ouch
yes i agree they should give up on the 3/8ths, tappered seat but then every one should also even gm's marine line.
incompateable metals are our problem with few companys taking advise from the marine ind. and useing stainless steel which is more compatable all around. they are useing s.s plugs why can't every one else?
INPUT FROM EVERYONE
Well, I'm glad you're rolling now, best wishes with your new truck! too bad this thread turned into nothing related to your post.
