Vibration & Power Loss During Acceleration

My 98 Expy 5.4L vibrates the whole vehicle and has little power when accelerating. When in park I feel a slight vibration when I apply a little gas but then revs up normally. My wife told me about the problem yesterday. This came on suddenly with no previous symptoms. When I checked it last night I noticed a slightly rough idle and found a small leak at the PCV boot. I repaired that and cleared the CEL light. When I took it for a drive I then realized the problem was much worse but the CEL light has not come back yet. Will a code come up with out the CEL light on? Do you think I might have lost a COP? Thanks for your advise in advance.

I will also add that it shifts normally but, seems to vibrate more violently the harder I accelerate. From looking through previous posts I am thinking it may be a COP. I think I will try to get it scanned for codes. Hopefully the CEL returns by the time I get there and get help point me in the right direction.

It could be a COP but may also be due to insufficient fuel pressure. (It most definitely sound like a misfire.)

If I had insufficient fuel pressure would I still be able to rev while in park? It does have a rough idle also. I drove it through a car wash for the first time Sunday and I am wondering if moisture got to one of the COP's. I don't think I have the tools to check the fuel pressure so I would have to take it in.

Went and got the code read. Cylinder #4 misfire. I replaced the COP and the plug and the problem is resolved. I plan to replace the rest of the plugs after the holidays. I am also going to test the COP I replaced. What a PITA to get to.

Passenger side rear. Hard to get to and hard to see. This was made easier by disconnectintg the wiring harness on the firewall and laying them off to each side.

Make sure you check the heater hose over the # 4 cop for leaks as this is what kills most # 4 cops.
