When I start up my 2000 F-250 I get the odor of desiel through the vents. Gee, I wonder what that could be??? Do you think it could be the O-rings on the valve could be crap because of the Ultra low sulpur crap we have to put in our trucks now? I won't be able to change them out till sometime in January.... That sucks....
Could be. I wonder if they were on the way out anyway. What did folks who had this problem last year say? Stupid higher sulfer content diesel#$@@#. I don't think so. Could be aging, could be fuel. Only time will tell.
do you notice the fuel drain leaking.........
or maybe around filter cap, or drain pet **** leaking like you think,,,,,
i hate the smell, id be trying to find that quick.....good luck
If you have a fuel leak on to of the motor (drain valve) the cab cooling system will draw fumes into the cab in any position other than MAX AC.
Check the valley behind the fuel filter for puddleing. One source other than the o-rings in the drain valve is on the passenger side head where the fuel line is attached with a metal P-clip (under the GPR/IAH bracket). The clip can get loose and rub on the fuel line.
O-rings are much more common but check just to be sure.
Wish I knew my way around diesel engines better. Not really sure where to look for anything once I open that hood. Man, I hate not knowing something but I am learning a lot here.......
The drain valve is on the rear of the fuel bowl. It's a yellow lever. Go to the passenger side and look at the fuel bowl and you will see it right there on the rear.

Take whatever knowledge you have about your previous gas engines and trade the spark plugs for the injectors. Delete the throttle body and double the compression ratio. That's the basic differences.
We had a fuel line leak on the top of the engine. I beleive it went from the front to the back on the passenger side. It filled the valley and you could smell the diesel. The man that replaced it for us said this was pretty common. That particular line makes a million little turns on the way back.
