How far on LOW FUEL light?

Just wondering how far you guys can usually go after your low fuel light comes on. I have always been able to go at least 50miles after the light came on in my 2000 F-450 with 7.3PSD, but my 06 F-250 6' SC goes maybe 20 miles before it starts hesitating. Wasn't ready for that the first time. Jsut wondering if that is the norm on the new superdutys.

I've never tried since I don't want to risk damaging the injectors. Diesel fuel lubricates them you know.

With my luck I will go exactly 1 mile less than the distance to the next station.

Have never driven till I ran out of fuel, BUT the other day I did go about 30 miles after the light came on w/no problem. Was trying to run it as low as I could so I could do the Harpoon mod.

When the needle hits zero, its empty!!! My buddy managed to find that out as he limped into the gas station !!!!!

I'd suggest not finding out personally

I usually go 20-30 miles after the light comes on... But when I gas up it usually only takes 24-25.5 gallons.. Considering it's a 29 gallon take I'd assume I have a bit more if I needed it. But that's also assuming the pickup is in the very bottom of the tank, which is may not be. I've driven to the point where the needle was on the low side of E, barely touching the line, and it still only took 26.? gallons. 5.4l '04 like my signature says.

I have always filled up at about a half tank. I never let it go below a quarter tank. Don't even want to think about running out or low on gas.

When that light comes on, you're supposed to have about 75 miles to empty. With the 6.0 diesel, it cuts your power when the fuel light comes on in an effort to prevent any possible damage from air bubbles getting into the injectors. I'll bet that's your hesitation.

Wow, cant believe so many run the tanks so low.

I'm with 6L PWR dont run fuel so low, hard on the injectors and great for condensation!

Hard on gas in tank pumps too!

I did once and only once. Went 11miles and filled up with 30gals. I fill to the filler neck. But everyone is right, don't run that low. When you run that low, your picking up any trash in the bottom of the tank. You'll either plug up you filters of worse your injectors. Doing this often, mean problem down the road. Also hard on the fuel pump.

First of all, the fuel pick up is already on the bottom of the tank. Any trash that is on the bottom has already been picked up.

With my old gas trucks that had duel tanks, I used to run the tank OUT before I switched and never had a problem with injectors or anything else. This was over more then 300,000 miles on my last truck.

On my PowerStroke I have done the same thing to empty the tanks for maint. but don't do it often. I still haven't had any problems with the fuel pumps or injectors.

When the light goes on you should have +/-3 gallons of gas. If you weren't supposed to use the tank they should put the pick up in the middle of the tank so you always had a half tank. I put a 46 gallon tank in mine so I could run 46 gallons before filling up.
