Reason: forgot to add something
I used all the regular wires that was there for the radio. While I was hooking the new radio up one of my kids came running up to me and hit my leg which caused the ground wire to flip up onto the power wire, there was a lil spark, and a lil smoke and then thats when my lil bro checked the fuse box and found the blown fuse we replaced it and i left every thing alone and went and cooked dinner, the next morning i had to take the kids to school and thats when i found out that I didnt have a speedometer, odometer, and the van was jerking while driving, i am guessing that the jerking started at 45mph.
also powers electronics in dash, the PSOM speed calculation unit which communicates with the PCM engine/transmission computer....the cause of of the speed/shifting problems above 45 mph
To all future people who read this post, here are the rules to follow.
1: Disconnect the battery when you work on electrical
2: When you replace a stereo, it is worth every penny to get a harness adapter. Do not cut your factory wiring. My truck was spliced by my brother, and it has electrical gremlin in completely unrelated circuits as a result. The radio finally work after I replaced sections of wire, and the clock circuit is a new fused line from the battery. On my Aerostar, I got a harness adapter, connected all the wires from the new stereo harness tot he harness adapter (the colors matched up perfectly by the way) and pluged it into the orginal factory plugs in the vehicle, and everything works flawlessly. Nothing got fried, and the sound is perfect.
The computer gets its information about speed fromt eh instrument cluster. If the cluster was damaged by the surge of power, then the computer is getting inaccurate information about the speed. You will likely need to remove the instumrnt cluster and inspect it. There was a recent post about a solder connection that comes loose and resoldering it fixed his problem.
Yeah my new cd player got fried, as I said before all the fuses have been changed and everything works but the speedometer, odometer, and the van was jerking while driving. I am scared to drive it the way it is. And Again THANK YOU ALL for your help. I will be sure to tell all my friends and family about this site.
