I have a 99 Ranger 4x4 3.0L. Is there a Flowmaster 40 dual exhaust system that will fit my truck? If so where is the best place to get or order one from?
I dont know, but if you buy the mufflers, any exhaust shop can make you a dual cat back. www.summitracing.com carries flowmaster. The 40 seres will drone inside the cab, be for warned.
the 3.0 rangers have very few (if any) dual kits. i made my own and ill tell you that it is not worth it. i saw no increase in power and my o2 sensors go out more often now. just stick with the single flowmaster kit
would it be better if i just cut out the old muffler and put a flowmaster in it's place and leave the single side pipe? Which Flowmaster seiries would be best?
Fordboy can answer your question better than I, as I have gibson. But I just wanted to tell you to try www.jusnesmodified.com and www.motorhaven.com, as they sell mufflers and thier site sponsers and members. They can help you also with some of your questions. Thier also listed to the left in the sponsers list, thier very helpfull and great to deal with, also good prices.
I had a Flowmaster on a 4.0L...yes you can swap just the muffler in place of the stock muffler, most shops will do it for next to nothing around here anyways.
I'd suggest calling your local shops and comparing prices against those online, remembering you will pay shipping for the online stuff.
The 40 series is the loudest of the Flowmaster mufflers, and will drone more than the others. From there on, they get quieter but drone less. So take your pick. I had a 40 series and actually wanted more sound out of it.
id recommend going to the sponsors and just getting a replacement muffler, its not worth messing with all the cats and you know that the current setup clears everything. i found that my duals rub on my springs and ive got two decent holes.
Well, I'm sure if you really want the dual cats, you could have a system custom made, or make it yourself. Might i suggest placing the tips in front of the rear wheels to eliminate clearence issuses. It should be easy(er) than making one snake past the rear axel, and i think it looks pretty nifty.
I put a single flowmaster and left the tailpipe off, it sounds awesome and only cost me $60 bucks installed (the flowmaster was in the slightly used pile at the muffler shop)
