I have been scouring the web for some much needed low end in my Superduty and need some help. I've replaced the head unit with a nice Pioneer unit (3 pre-outs and sub control!), and all 4 speakers with the custom Ford/Mazda sized Pioneer 3-ways.
I was all excited about the MTX thunderforms and ordered one up. It said that it was for 2000-2005 F250 Super cab trucks. My 99.5 F250 SC would fit it, right? WRONG!!!! The 99 has a seat that flips forward (instead of backward) and the bottom of the cab (under the seat) has a 6" shelf (Comes back into the cab for about 6" and goes 6" up - basically eliminating most of the underseat possibilities).
The only other alternatives that I could find is the JL stealthbox (Not sure how it would sound given its location) and something custom. What options do I have? I'm looking for something that can be quite loud when powered right, but nice, tight and clear (Have had sealed, ported and bandpass boxes in the past - I prefer sealed but am open to suggestions).
If you know how to lay fiberglass or are handy you could try and tackle it yourself and make an enclosure. There are plenty of DIY web sites to make a decent sealed enclosure.
Most of the stealth boxes are 500$ and up but they work very well for the size/shape if you have the $$
I have an Infinity subwoofer and amp combo. Fits perfectly in front of the rear seat right in the middle and sounds Kick A$$. I can still lift my rear seat up. Hope this helps.
I had the JL audio stealthbox in my 99 super duty and really liked it. I had the one that replaced the lower section of the front center seat. They also make one that fits inside the console too. I had problems with the JL sub that came in mine. I burned up the voice coils on two of them, one was replaced under warranty for free. After the second one I replaced the sub with a Image Dynamics IDQ10d2v2 and really loved it. I think the new ones come with a different model of JL audios sub, that is supposedly a lot better so you may not have the problems I had.
I still have the sub box and have been trying to decide if I will install it in my new 2007 truck or if I will just get a dual 10" box for behind the rear seat from supercrew sound (a sponsor here I think). I might do both
All in all I definitely think that the stealthbox is the best option in your truck. I do not think you will be disappointed.
Thanks for the Replies! Being that I have a center console in the front (as opposed to the center seat), I would need the console version. So, it is down to these 2:
On the Q-Logic one, Being that it is sealed, The 2 spots on top must be cup holders. My truck doesn't currently have rear cupholders, so that would be a bonus when traveling with the kids (The sub would be set low or off with them in the car, so I wouldn't have to worry about their drinks exploding!)
I just wonder how it sounds. I'm used to dual 12's in midsize cars and compact sedans, I've never had a sub in any of my trucks.
Also, that price of $249 is "loaded" with a rockford sub.
I ended up buying the Q-Logic version, but not loaded. I found a sweet deal on it from Cardomain.com. $179 with free shipping. I'm currently waiting for it to show up (Should be early next week).
My next question is: Where in the heck do I mount the amp? I have the center console in the front, so there isn't any space on the floor there, The driver and passenger seats have the slide releases that would really make it tough to fit an amp under there that was any thicker than an inch or so (Good luck finding one). Being that I have a 99, under the rear seat is also out - only about 6" is usable - and there aren't any amps with any usable power that are only 6" wide.
