Hi all,
I have a lil prob it's called a 2000 Ranger, I need a lil help finding out what is wrong with it.
A couple days ago it started, as I was on my way to work, about 30 mi, at around 65-70 mph it started to slightly "buck" a bit and sounded like it was missing a bit, then the " check engine" light blinked several times, then stopped.
On the way home the light came on solid and constant, either direction to or from, the more throttle I give it, the more it misses and bucks.
More so going to as it is a slight incline the last 1/2 of the way.
A month or so ago I used injector cleaner and replaced the fuel filter.
How many miles do you have on your truck? You can start by having the codes scanned, but if you have never changed the plugs, or plug wires, I would change those, replacing the plugs with ONLY Motorcraft OEM plugs.
I already replaced the air filter about 2 months ago. Plugs were done about 15,000 mi ago.
I guess I should just get me a scanner, or just get rid of the dang thing......*sigh*
Well, the thing is this,.....the way it acts is very much like it is trying to run lean, maybe not enough fuel, or pressure...........??
If there ia a fuel pump issue, will the ECM detect that ??

The PCM will detect a lean condition from the O2 sensors, and set a code. You need to verify what kind of plugs were used. The previous owner of my Ranger had installed Bosch plugs, and I had the same "bucking" (or misfire) that was fixed by installing the OEM Motorcraft plugs. The plug wires will cause the same symptom, when they break down. Plug wires are easily damaged when the plugs are changed, especially if they are old.
With a CEL, have it scanned or get a scanner, it is trying to tell you where to look! The O2 sensors are due to be replaced at that mileage, but taking it somewhere to get it scanned will give you a better idea.
EUREKA !!!!
Thanx all for your help, got ahold of a scanner today and it said missfire cyl#1, well, #1 was fine, however the OEM motorcraft platnum plug in #3 was basically grenaded, cracked cone and all, set 'O plugs and wire set........it's all gudr !!
Thanx again all !!! :-)
