well I am putting an EFI on my 72 truck and would like to bypass the vss if possible but I am told that it affects fuel delivery on decel, does anyone know if it can be bypassed?
The VSS goes in the speedometer drive hole in tail shaft of transmission. At least the ones I deal with do. They include CFI/ SD EEC IV, SEFI/ TP EFI w/EEC IV and the MAFS/ TP EFI w/ EEC IV and that is with or without AOD transmissions.
I have a 9" under my 88F-150 ( which I retro fitted a couple years ago) & it has a T-5 Manual. The VSS goes there in that set up also. . .
And No VSS is integral to operation of All FoMoCo systems. If we're talking about After Market EFIs, I don't have a clue nor any interest to find out.
The sensor in the rear axle is for the Anti-lock brake system, the one for the EFI is the one on the tranny as FBP said. Don't worry about it, as I doubt you're concerned with trying to swap ABS into the '72...
Dan; my abs started going off (pedal pulse) rolling forward or backward at 5 mph. Dash trouble lights match the christmas tree but then it's a Rover, with a mind of it's own. Auto prefreeze warning device? Record low on the island this morning.

If he is going to use an auto tranny, with the auto PCM, he is going to need it.

This is true until about 92 when ford figured out they could use one sensor to run the ABS and the speedo. They used the axle sensor to do both jobs but the signal was wrong for the ECM so when they changed in 92 they also went to a electronic speedo with a signal converter to give the proper signal to the ECM. The speedo/signal converter was called a PSOM and it could be reprogramed for larger or smaller tires. After 92 their was no sensor in the tranny until like 99 I think (not sure about the 99 year). The simplist way I can see to do this is to change the rear axle to a newer style that has the tone ring. I think it could be done by running a sensor off the trans but Im not sure what it would take unless you are going to an EFI system that is older than a 92 in which case it would be a bolt and plug in deal.
