Muffler for stacks?
Redbob- i have seen here in town at least one guy that has what appears to be a "rubber" elbow in his stack setup. Now i'm sure it's not just rubber, probably a silicone mix or something that could actually handle the heat. He's been using it for about a year if i remember. It certainly is showing wear, little burnt on the edges (leaks a little) and starting to crack, but he has one, so i know they sell them. The braided hose would definitely work better so will probably go with that, forgot about those all together.

You might find one of these even in a junk yard if the mileage isn't too too high; a number of cars such as the Nissan Sentra, Stanza, Altima, and Quest; and the Ford Escort GT and Villager, had flex pipes with a 2-1/8" ID.
The reason I mention the junkyard is that, although these things sold to Ford for right at $20, the $tealer price is probably close to $200.
Shoot: even JC Whitney sells them, although the quality of the stainless isn't as good as the OEM parts.
That's how I'd do it, and I'm not only a former Ford exhaust systems engineer, but I have also worked at the company that made those flexes mentioned above.
and now I work for a Class 8 truck maker who shall remain nameless, except to say we're the *only* one still American-owned.
And I
