Hey Guys, after alot of trouble shooting I am convinced I have a fuel delivery problem. I have a 94 PSD. It starts ok but, it runs rough. And it runs rough throughout the throttle. The check engine light comes on while it runs rough. It does clear up on its own and the light clears. Then it goes bad again. I cannot attribute it to any one thing. (Temp., engine load, time) it is just not repeatable. Although it is way more frequent now. It is starving for fuel. I changed the cps, fuel filter and have checked one valve cover harness inside and out, it checks ok. I have not had time to do the other one yet. But I don't think it is the problem. Anyone experienced this. Long winded I know. I wanted to give all info. Any thoughts appreciated. Mike
here is a quote from cemsawmill, I don't know how to post the link
Hi to all and thanks for ypur inputs.
I have been reading your fourms trying to find out what to do to fix my rolling idle.I took the beast in a year ago to the dealer form maintance.
When I got it back it had the rolling idle, I called and was told to drive it, might be air in the lines.
well it has been a year and it still dose it, cold, worm, stoped at alight, it realy buged me.
After reading all the post on rough, missing, rolling idle. I made the decsion to pull the fuel regulator and clean the screen. it was totally plug off, i cant beleave it was getting an fuel through the screen or runnig!!!!!! i was carefull with the oring, and putting the 10mm bolts back in the right place, new air filter, new oil filter& Delo oil, checked glo plugs, now for start. got my fingers crossed.
it runs like it used to no rolling idle, all you 7.3 owners if your diesel is rolling, missing, soundsa diffrent, clean the FUEL REGULATOR SCREEN, it fixed my problem. thanks to all for the information. CEM
I hope this helps, I have not done the procedure myself.
I would sure check the other side valve cover gasket plug connections, all it takes is one injector signal to be bad, also the IPR, injection pressure regulator on the back of the HPOP, I have seen an article about aguy with simalr problems, he replaced that and it fixed it, when I get home i will try and pos a link to a site with a lot of helpful stuff.
Well I decide to check under the other valve cover and there it was. A melted mess of a plug and wires. Replaced everything truck runs great. Thanks for all the help Mike
