I have a 2000 F250SD 7.3L. It's a 4 door, longbed with auto trans. It is twin I Beam and 2 wheel drive. I am interested in converting it to 4 wheel drive. Has anyone else done this, and if so can I get a detailed list of parts and procedure and cost etc. Thanks, Tommy
Hi, welcome to FTE. To tell you the open, honest truth, it is easier just to sell it and buy a comprable 4wd truck. There is simply just too much stuff to change over to get it to work. It would be a good project for someone with more money than brains, though.
i have to agree... it would be way too much work to convert over to a 4 wheel drive system.
completely replace the front suspension and axel
transfer case, and possible transmission swap if the housing is different ( i have no idea if it is though)
steering linkage would probably have to be moved or modified
not even going to get into the shift on the fly option.
with all the parts you would need a donor truck to even attempt it.
with all the money and heartache involved, i'd just by a 4x4 and be done with it
although, it would be an interesting project, maybe to swap in a GM style IFS with the existing Ford IFS. hummmm... got me thinking might make for a smoother ride.
