Sure has! The truck was called ShaZam and the 435/400 stroker made 799hp with iron 4V heads. Pissed off the Chevy guys because it competed in the small block class. Do a search for Shazam on this forum and I'm sure you'll find it

What's a 400M? Is that anything like a 400C?

There is no such thing as a 400M. Ford made a 351M and a 400. The 351M was a modified 400. As to similarities, they are two completely different motors. They do share some common parts however.

Since the fuel pump mounts the same way on the 351M/400 (bolts at 6 and 12...as opposed to the 351W which is at 3 and 9)...wouldn't the blocks be the same? I've forgotton all the details, but I also seem to remember the rod and main bearings being the same, also.

The only differences between the 351M and the 400 were the crank and pistons for most purposes. Externally there is no difference. The vibration damper had a different part number tho but is similar. It would be interesting to see all the different 351M and 400 damper next to each other.

Only the 351 displacement engines used letter designators.

He asked the difference between a 400 and a 400C.

Actually since I was half asleep I answered wrong... There is no 400C --- a 351C but no 400C

Just got my mag today, looks like it is the opposite of their budget 400hp 400 build 8 years ago, this one is running over $6K the budget build was around $2K for 100hp less. Wish they'd do another budget 400 build, it would be interesting if they could get 400hp for under $3K today.

This could arguably be called a 400C because it has a small block bellhousing bolt pattern. I like the idea of calling the 400 FMX a 400C.

I thought they went through a lot of trouble using custom parts for not that much HP. They only gained about 20 c.i. or so from the stoking and that's just not worth the trouble. They also didn't mention the idle characteristics or what octane fuel they were using.

I had to go out to the local news stand to buy a copy.

Have not even read it yet, just skimmed it.

Looks like I have to go back to school!!
