I recently picked up a manual transfer case to swap out my automatic one but it has no tag. how can I ID it to buy the rebuild kit? i know it is a BW1356 but the wesite asks about splines.
If you know the year model of the t-case, that may enough to determine what parts to get for it. Somewhere around 91/92, were some changes made including possibly the output shaft spline count. Also a difference in t-cases from a pick-up vs. a Bronco in rear yoke style (slip yoke vs fixed yoke/flange). you can find some general info at truckpulls.com. I think my 88 T-xcse has the ID numbers stamped in the back housing, might look there or on the tailhousing. JSM84
thank for your help. i emailed the guy on ebay about the rebuild kit asking about the tooth count he said the only way to know how many teeth you have is to tear it down and count them. thanks again
That's probably the best way, since there's so many different versions from 87-96. I was searching e-bay earlier, and found a vendor selling rebuilt B-W 13-56 t-cases for $650 shipped in the U.S. I am looking just for a rear tailshaft housing and output shaft for a Bronco, so I can convert my 88 pick-up t-case to the shorter, fixxed yoke. If you need any more t-case help, just holler!!! JSM84
