I'm swapping in some lifted coils and I need to replace the c-bushings with new ones.
One of the two bolts that hold the coil spring cups broke off on each side. It was the front bolt on each side. What's the best way to remove whats left of the bolts?
How much pressure can I put on the big bolts that hold the two parts together for the c-bushings? Any tips or tricks before I screw something else up?
for the coil mounts just redrill and tap the broken bolts. sometimes using reverse cut drill bits will catch and back out the bolt once it starts heating up and getting thinner. Don't bother with easy outs as you could wind up with worse problems. To help getting the bigger bolts out of the c-caps use a lubricant and/or heat up the radius arm around the bolt first.
get a nut and put it on top of the busted bolt and weld it as best ya can. let it cool (naturally, do not quench or you will weaken it) then slowy try and use a socket wrench. btw... if you try and back the bolt out while its hot you are working against yourself b/c the heat from the weld actually tightens the bolt in the hole. use a torch to heat around the bolt and i can almost garauntee it comes out!
I can try the welding trick, but there isn't much left of the bolt... it's broke off nearly flush. I can maybe work with them better once I get the big bolts out that hold the front part to the radius arm.
