When I turn my key on, on my 86 ranger with a 2.9L V6, my pumps do not kick on for three seconds as they should. I have power at my fuel pump relay when my key is on, and when I ground a certain wire from the fuel pump relay, it stays on and does not shut off until I remove the ground. Any help? Thanks
well, I have no check engine light, and I was using an analog volt meter. I have to do it a certain way though. I am going to bet money it's the eec thats been causing me trouble, because, it should ground the relay, and make it shut off and on for 3 seconds, does that sound right? I have checked almost every possible wire that comes off of the fuel pump relay and can't find any damaged or disconnected wires. This all leads me to believe that my eec is shot, unless a sensor is causing my fuel pumps not to come on at all. But, when I make my pumps come on and try to start my truck (I have spark) I can't get my truck to start. What could possibly cause this, maybe a bad eec? or two of them?
I do have a wiring diagram but all of the wire colors are off, but I know where all the fuel pump relay wires go. I ripped all of the wire bundles apart so I could check the wires to make sure they were all right and they are fine. I know my 86 does not have a CEL, did I say that my truck did, if I did it was not intensionally. I am pretty sure my eec is shot, I will go check my grounds and do all of the things you said. What should I do next once I did all of the things you said and they were allright?
