Question altrernator trouble

Does anyone here know if the alternators on these 351 fords are rebuildable, as far as a brush replacement goes? Just wondering. thanks

If you can find an auto electric place that specializes in rebuilding alternators and motors and such that also does over the counter parts sales - you will be set. I deal with a place like that and a complete rebuilt kit (they take the parts list and gather a pile of parts for the alternator) costs around $60 for my 85 Amp alternator on the 89. $28 for the pieces to rebuild my starter. But in order to make it worth your while you have to be able to rebuild it all yourself. One hour at their shop rate takes you beyond a rebuilt from the local parts store. The worst part on the new alternators is that you have to unsolder the field windings from the rectifier bridge and then resolder it when you put it back together. A 100 watt solding iron works well. Good luck.

if your alt is bad, this is a good time to upgrade to a wrecking yard 3g altenator. if your interested i will need more info like year of rig, carb or efi etc.. its an easy swap and finding a 130amp alt is possible an cheap

alright thanks you guys, got stranded, so my only option at the time was to purchase a new alternator. Did the job, I think it was the regulator, but the parts store didn't have one in stock. Big suprise. thanks again.

130a 3G would be your best find.

As for alt parts my old boss has a website for his shop

also check out www.fordfuelinjection.com that site sells 3G alts which are the only way to go and all the wiring harness's and fuse blocks you need to make the swap. the alts are decently priced as well. for your needs i would run a 160-200amp
