Engine suffered fire damage - long block rebuildable?

I have found a local engine of the type that I have wanted to put in my truck. It is really cheap, but it has been in a vehicle fire. The damage seems extensive. Everything aluminum was melted. Is the long block portion of the engine recoverable (do engine blocks have temper that could have been ruined by the fire), or should I continue looking for better candidates?

My uncle rebuit a burned f350in the mid 80's. This truck needed the entire cab and front end. The carb was melted into the intake. He used the origional engine with no problems, by replacing valve seals and cleaning out the intake. Never opened the longblock.
