Which firing do I use ...?

Hey guys so I just dropped in my brand new engine block casting number F1SE . It's a roller block , and I used all my speed density truck parts , such as the distributor , heads , hydraulic flat tappet cam and lifters , I started it and it's running rough and I'm having a hard time getting it to run smooth and it sometimes back fires , I'm on the standard 15426378 firing order , but could it be that I need to use the H.O. Firing order ?

Thanks ,

No expert, but the flat tappet would take the old firing order you listed, unless the cam you purchased/installed stated otherwise.

Yeah I looked up the specs and it does take that one , maybe I'm just not finding tdc the right way then, because this thing just won't run smooth, what I would do is just simply turn the engine over till the balancer was at 0, then whatever point the rotor was pointing is where I would put plug number 1, and if it backfired I would just try and rotate the rotor 180 degrees , is that wrong ?

Need to check TDC of #1 cylinder on compression stroke. I use a piece of tissue stuffed in spark plug hole and then either a wooden dowel/stick or plastic straw to find closest to TDC. Then stab the distributor closest to the rotor pointing to #1 on the cap. I started my rebuild at 2* BTDC using this method. Pretty close for a novice.

Hope this helps.
