Header clearance problems using a toyota steering box.
I'm using GT-40p heads on my 90 model 302. I bought the headers to fit but am having clearance problems on the driver side with my toyota steering box. I was just wondering if anybody else has this combination and what did you do to fix it. Thanks for your time.

Do you have to have special headers for those heads? I used 73 mustang full length headers on my 53 with stock steering box, and the headers went around the box like they where made for it. I am assuming the toyota set-up is not much bigger than the stock box. I did have to get rid of the stock crossmember under the transmission area though.

I'm having the same clearance problem that you are having with my 58 truck with the toyota box and 302 engine. Have you come up with anything yet. I think I might be able to move the engine as I have not welded the crossmember solid yet.
I have also though about moving the box on top of the frame and making the arm longer. Does anyone have any ideas on that.

I also have GT40-P heads on my 1998 Ford Motorsport 302 along with the Toyota steering. I bought headers to fit and then modified the tubes and collector to clear the steering box. All you need is a cut-off saw and a Tig welder.
