Any ideas ...
I am looking to add an HID kit to my 06 F-350. Down side is that I'll loose my highbeam. I have found a website that sells a projector style headlight assy. but only for 99-04. http://www.mytightride.com/foex20crhele.html
Has anyone seen a after market headlight that separates the high from the low so you can use HID for low and keep a factory high beam? ? ?
go to hidplanet.com. you will see that a full hid retrofit kit will be the only right way to do it. there are plenty of pictures of hid bulbs in halogen reflector lenses as well as in halogen projectors. this is where people have problems. i as well was looking to get aftermarket headlights with the projector then take the halogen one out and build it to a hid projector lense and do a full conversion but the cuttoff line to me is an issue as well as the brights. good ones move the shield so the cuttoff line is higher and more light gets higher. however there isnt brighter light that is produced. dont just buy a bolt on kit. also if you use stock brights and hids lows in a different spot the lows need to be kept on with brights because if they "shut off" to switch to high beams on you will have a black out moment when switching back due to the hid takes a moment to power up. if it is wired like this flashing your lights will be very hard on the hid bulbs as well and kill life of them.
I am thinking of getting HID xenon bulbs for my 2006 F150 with H13 bulbs. I would like the bi-xenon that is hi and low beam and use them in my factory headlight assembly. Anyone have some? where is good place to buy? I see them on ebay but don't know what brand to get.

I bought a HID hi/lo bulb for my 2006 350.
The low beam is HID and the hi beam is halogen. The low beam ROCKED.
People rant on doing the HID conversion in a reflector housing (vs the projector housing of a "true" HID)
But I loved the conversion. The Hi beam was NOT anything to write home about, but the low beam was SO much light.
At first I was worried that I'd get pulled over for them, but never had a problem in 3 months of having them in and never even had any oncoming traffic flash their brights at me.
In the end... One of the ballasts went out and was defective. I was going to get a replacement under warranty, but decided to just return the whole kit BECAUSE it wasn't plug and play as advertised (I had to t-tap into wiring etc to get it set up)
I had a post about it a while back I'll try to find. The vendor told me he's goign to email me when he gets the correct wiring harness so it is plug and play... when he does I will probably buy another kid and put it on. I REALLY liked them (even though the hi beam was just so so) the low beam was so nice and the crystal white/hint of blue headlight looked SO clean comapred to the dirty yellow halogen.
Here is my previous post when I did the conversion:
I went with the GE nighthawk xenon bulbs in my 01. Not HID, but I'm pretty pleased with them. They must be bright since I do get flashed from time to time. Nieghbor put sylvania siver stars in his Audi. I'd say equal to my GEs. We'll see how long they last. I've read many of times the silver stars have a short lifespan.Either way still cheaper than some kind of conversion...
Do the conversions plug in where the halogen bulb would be or do you have to run wires from another connection? I want an easy hook up and not have to find a wire diagram of the truck to hook them up. will the factory wires handle the start up draw of the HID lights?

The kit I bought was suppose to be plug-and-play. It was not. I had to t-tap into the wiring. Not complicated, but it was more work and I had to make my own connections.
That's just one vendor. I can't speak for other kits. I was told by the vendor I purchased from that they'd have the correct wiring harness in the next month or two. But that's why I returned mine... The ballast went bad on one, and if I was going to be waiting for that replacement I figured I'd just return the whole thing and wait for the kit with plug and play wiring.
As far as power... The ballast/igniter creates the charge you need to strike the arc in the bulb so the stock wiring isnt' delivering any more electricity than usual. (the wiring from the ballast to the bulb comes with the kit) and obviously handles the current no problem. Once they are running the HID draws less current than the halogen bulb.
AND he saved me money by warning me to AVOID fancy halogen bulbs such as silverstars, cool blues, etc. etc.
By pointing out that STOCK halogens produce more usable light than silverstars, he saved me about $75.
"Avoid blue tinted bulbs". I was advised to stay away from bulbs like you mentioned for that reason. Nighthawks are not tinted. Just white light. $28 bucks at Wal-mart for the SD and I can see every critter big and small in plenty of time not to squish them. I like HID, but I isn't practicle to retro fit something that isn't an issue.
hmmm... Maybe I should give the 'nitehawks' a roll. I'm not impressed with the silverstars at all. If I found something I was happy with without having to go back to HID that'd be great.
