Heres the compression test results. I did this test cold. The cylinders indicated wet are cylinders with low compression retested with 3 squirts of Marvel Mystery Oil.
DRY
#1. 120
#2. 115
#3. 130
#4. 115
#5. 20 Wet-40
#6. 120
#7. 10 Wet-25
#8. 125
The plugs from the #5 and #7 were soaked with oil, the plug from the #8 was burnt looking, and the rest looked good.
Is this broken rings, considering the compression went up wet (especially on the #50) it makes sense to me.
The #7 is the cylinder that has the bad lifter, the are the valves not working properly?
Thanks in Advance.
You can use your compression tester for a poor mans test. Remove the check valve from the spark plug end screw it in the hole and connect it to a pressurized line with a release fitting. All you really want to do is fine out where the air is going. Out the carb probably intake valve, out the exhaust you get the idea, coming out the iol fill tube..uh oh!! never done it google it you'll have it down in no time..pretty basic. But you need to have the engine set to do each hole (TDC for 1, 90º #2, 90º #3,) I'll get my book out and see what I can put into text for you, later this evening.
Caution: Keep hands etc away from fan and pulleys etc.. As the engine will turn with a sharp burst if the engine is not at TDC for that cylinder.
All plugs removed. While testing have the breather and radiator cap off.
My advice as it's not mentioned: Set the supply of air to 60lb
Set the engine at TDC for #1 after number 1 has been tested rotate the engine in normal operating direction 90 deg and check the next cylinder in the firing order (15426378)
Air coming through the carb = intake valve leaking
Air coming through the exhaust = exh valve leaking
(If either valve is leaking be sure it's at TDC on comp stroke)
A head gasket leak will show up as air leaking out the adjacent cylinder or through the radiator filler neck cracked cylinder wall or head will also show as leaking through the radiator filler neck
A leak in the rings area will show up as air coming through the oil breather cap or dipstick tube.
